Tracy Rathbun and Lynae Fearing opened their DUO – All Things Culinary Wednesday night to about 125 guests to kick off the Celebrity Waiter Luncheon for Family Gateway. That explained the lineup of cars at the valet stand on Inwood. One car parker looked as if he had been struck by the genius wand saying, “Oh, that’s why there are all these cars.”
But once inside the guests and celebrities mixed and mingled as the DUO/ Shinsei mavens and their bud Brandy Taylor smiled on. Not only were they throwing the party, they were donating 15% of the evening’s proceeds to Family Gateway. If you’re a foodie, you were in cooking paradise.
Luncheon co-chairs Maggie Cooke Kipp and Shay Geyer were thrilled not only at the turnout, but their plans for the September 23 luncheon at the Ritz.
Now, anyone who attended last year’s luncheon knows that it got a bit rambunctious. Why? It’s the ideal recipe of ladies plus champagne plus very gutsy celeb waiters. Shay, who waited last year, giggled at some of the memories of what happened with Kim Fischer performing Baby Bump with the other gal waiters, and Vaughn Miller showing why he’s such a polo expert as he rode Brandon Higgins into the legions of luncheon tables.
Wednesday night at DUO’s, though, there were none of those antics. Dallas Cowboy Marc Colombo towered over the rest of the crowd and said he was going to try to get some of the NFL players involved. It all depends on the lockout. If they get the season going on schedule, training camp would start around July 24, and it would be 7 days a week, from 6:30 in morning to 6:30 at night. But Marc doubted that scenario would happen. He predicted that the dispute wouldn’t be settled until the last minute, right before the season starts, if it is settled. Not good for the players. Then again, he added, all the players would have the same handicap. On the upside, Marc proudly said the Cowboys’ “player-organized workouts” they’ve been holding have had the highest numbers (participation) in the NFL.Regardless of Marc’s status, it’s pretty good guess that Marc’s wife Jessica will be at the luncheon for sure. Not only did she serve as last year’s silent auction chairman, she’s also on Gateway Family’s board.
Celeb waitress D’Andra Simmons was right on time despite having spent a very busy day at the TV studio and getting an audition tape to NYC. Plus she’s been tied up with photos for Hard Night Good Morning. Guess D’Andra was simply trying to wrap up everything before hand surgery on Friday.
Of course, you want to know which celeb waiters are scheduled. Here is the present list: Gina Miller, Daniel Lewis, Amy Vanderoef, Grant Stinchfield, LeeAnne Locken, D’Andra Simmons, Kris Clinton, Kim Fischer, Rhonda Sargent Chambers, Lynae Fearing, Chris Flanagan, Lisa Garza, Tracy Rathbun, Victoria Snee, Hunter Sullivan, Tre Wilcox, Steve Kemble and event emcee Scott Murray.
Speaking of celebs, Good Morning Texas’s Amy Vanderoef threw down the gauntlet. She said she’ll play the National Anthem on a mouth trumpet and do card tricks, like pulling one from behind her ear. When asked if she knew how to perform such magic tricks, the cute blond replied with a perfect smile and a twinkle in her eye, “No, but I will by the time the luncheon is held.”
